Tambopata · Sandoval Lake Lodge

Located within the Tambopata National Reserve (Port Maldonado), a 25 minutes river ride on the Mother of God takes you to the Sandoval Lake Lodge located in one of the most beautiful lakes of the Forest of the Tambopata and perhaps of all Peru. Because of the close proximity to Cuzco (Only a 30 minute flight), it is the best combination to visit the capital of the Inca Empire.

Day 01. - Cusco · Port Maldonado - Heath River
Transfer from the airport of Port Maldonado towards the port located in the Mother of God River. During the way a brief visit in the city will take place. After a 25 minute trip by the Mother of God River, you will arrive at the beginning of a trail by which a long walk of 25 to 30 minutes will take place. Soon it will be arrived at a small channel where a canoe will be approached that will lead to the visitors during minutes of trip towards the Sandoval Lake. The view is is impressive and very beautiful. There the visitors will approach a catamaran that will take them towards the Sandoval Lake Lodge.
Soon of the lunch, and brief rest, the Catamaran will be approached to visit the part the West of the Lake. At the dusk the guacamayos arrive at this zone to spend the night or to remain in their nests. Return to the shelter to have supper. At night one will approach the canoes to go in search and to admire the Black Cayman. If there is moon and the cleared sky this it is possible to sail by the lake with a wonderful view. |
Day 02.- Visit Sandoval lake
Very early in the morning wake up to visit the Lake. It will be possible to observe the birds that leave in food search, and with a little luck, to wolves of river fishing. The first hours in the morning it is the best moment to see fauna and to obtain very good photographs. By noon the heat makes the birds prefer to be in the shade and the visitors cannot be observe as much.
Return to the shelter to have breakfast. Later, a demonstration is done by the natives showing how they collect and commercialize the Nuts of Brazil, a very important product within the economy of the zone. Soon after lunch, rest and to prepare yourself to visit the part of the lake where one will be able to be appreciate or more than the five species of monkeys that live (including the Capuchín).
Return to the shelter to have supper and visit the Lake to see Black Caymans or to carry out a long walk through primary forest and to listen to the nocturnal sounds of the forest. |
Day 04.- Return
Soon after breakfast, we will leave from the airport flying to the city of Lima or Cuzco. |
